DANIEL MOULT: SOLO ORGAN RECITAL ON THE OCCASION OF THE FEAST OF ST KRŠEVAN AND ZADAR CITY DAY 23 November 2025

You are the adornment of the city of Zadar,

Krševan, glorious saint;

heaven sings your praise,

the Church venerates you, the world proclaims you.

St Krševan was an early Christian martyr from the time of Emperor Diocletian. Tradition links him with St Anastasia, to whom Zadar Cathedral is dedicated, as well as with St Zoilus, another heavenly protector of the city. The greatest historical recognition the people of Zadar have given their patron is the fact that his image was chosen for the city’s coat of arms, seal, and banner. Therefore, the people of Zadar celebrate him both liturgically in the Church and as Zadar City Day, on 24 November. There is no better occasion to enhance this celebration with the sound of our magnificent cathedral organ.

On the eve of the feast of St Krševan, on 23 November 2025, following the solemn evening Mass celebrated by the Archbishop of Zadar, Mons. Milan Zgrablić, an organ recital on the exceptionally valuable Eisenbarth organ of St Anastasia’s Cathedral was performed by the internationally acclaimed English organist, teacher, and musician Daniel Moult.

Moult studied at the University of Oxford and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He currently lives in London as a freelance artist and, since 2017, has headed the distinguished Organ Department at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He performs regularly and leads masterclasses throughout the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and Australia, and is a highly sought-after pedagogue. He has led many programmes of the Royal College of Organists, recorded numerous CDs and DVDs, and is a pioneer in the use of film to popularise organ music. He frequently appears on BBC Radio and Television. Critics describe his playing as “exciting”, “brilliant”, and “impressive”, emphasising his intelligence, virtuosity, and authority at the instrument — qualities we ourselves witnessed during the recital, especially in his performance of Variations on a Theme by Paganini for Pedals by George Thalben-Ball (1896–1987).

Although he has travelled almost the entire world, this was his first visit to Croatia and to Zadar. He expressed particular admiration for the cathedral organ and the building’s acoustics. During his short stay, in addition to his concert preparations, he found time to explore the city and expressed special delight at another set of Zadar’s renowned organs — the Sea Organ.
Mr Moult selected an exceptionally engaging and impressive programme, greatly enjoyed by true lovers of organ artistry. You can watch and listen to the entire concert here and on the Ars Organi Zadar YouTube channel.
