ORGAN BUILDER
Born in 1986 in Bačka Topola, Tibor Apro completed his primary and secondary education before enrolling at the Department of Musical Instruments at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music at the University of Budapest. In 2009, he earned a degree as a specialist in organ building, repair, and restoration.
As an organ builder, he is dedicated to reviving this somewhat forgotten craft in Vojvodina. Archival records show that from the early 19th to the mid-20th century, several organ-building workshops operated in the region, and many of their instruments are still preserved in churches today. His professional focus is on the preservation and restoration of organs that hold the status of cultural monuments, as well as the repair, maintenance, and renewal of those still in use throughout Vojvodina.
In his restoration work, he strives to return each instrument to its original appearance and sound. Before undertaking the restoration of previously repaired organs, he studies archival documents detailing their original construction and functioning to restore their authentic quality and tone. When necessary, he collaborates with other experts in restoration fields, such as decorative painters, organ specialists, and other independent professionals.
In Hungary, he has participated in the restoration of organs in Velika Kanjiža, the Lower Town Church in Budapest (3 manuals, 40 registers), the church at Káposztásmegyer Square in Budapest (3 manuals, 50 registers), the Reformed Church in Dusnok (3 manuals, 38 registers), and the Catholic Church—a protected cultural monument (1 manual, 12 registers)—among others.
He is the permanent maintainer of the restored organs in the Subotica Cathedral and is also responsible for the maintenance of the organs in the Catholic Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bačka Topola.
