Master of Musicology and Music History Teacher
Br. Bartol Mihael Beban, OSB, a monk of the Benedictine Monastery of Ćokovac, earned a Master’s degree in Musicology and Music History from the Academy of Music at the University of Zagreb. From 2009 to 2017, he worked at the same institution as an assistant in the Department of Musicology, teaching courses such as Music of Antiquity and the Middle Ages, Croatian Music of the Middle Ages, Early Music Notation, and others. He is currently completing his doctoral dissertation at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in the field of music medieval studies, with a comparative focus on the repertoire of Dominican chant preserved in medieval antiphonaries from the Dalmatian region. He has presented at about a dozen international and national scholarly symposia and has published numerous scientific papers in both domestic and international journals (https://kug.academia.edu/HrvojeBeban). From 2011 to 2017, he served as a singer in the Oratorio Choir of St. Mark’s Church, “Cantores sancti Marci”, in Zagreb, and for five years he was also its prefect. During his tenure, the choir realized numerous performances, both as part of the regular Sunday liturgy and in concert and competitive settings, achieving notable success on the international level.
